Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement, is an approach to manufacturing based on the Toyota Production System. Lean Manufacturing focuses on the removable of waste from a manufacturing process, so that goods flow to the customer at the rate determined by the customer, with minimal inventory.

In order to identify waste in the process, teams engage in Value Stream Mapping and then apply specific improvement techniques to move from their Current State to the desired Future State through continuous improvement.
